Waterman was caricatured by actor David Walliams on Little Britain, and he made a surprise cameo at Comic Relief in 2006 with Walliams and co-star Matt Lucas.

‘I grew up watching Dennis Waterman’s famous performances in The Sweeney and Minder,’ Lucas tweeted today, one of several who paid tribute to the actor.

‘His appearance in our Little Britain Live concert at Hammersmith Apollo, in which he wonderfully duetted with David’s ludicrous portrayal of him, remains the absolute highlight of my career,’ says the actor.

Waterman died on May 8, 2022, at the age of 74, in a hospital in Spain.
