Jenni Rivera’s full name is Dolores Janney Rivera Saavedra, and she was born on July 2, 1969, in Long Beach, California, to Pedro Rivera and Rosa Saavedra. Her parents raised her, together with her four brothers and sisters. Rivera’s family introduced her to traditional Mexican music. She received straight A’s in school and was pregnant with her first child before the age of 15.

Rivera was working at the time and supporting herself and her two children by selling CDs at flea markets. She was also finishing her education at the time, finally graduating as class valedictorian. She then enrolled at California State University, Long Beach, and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She worked in real estate after graduating from university. After some time, she began working for Cintas Acuario, her father’s record company, which he founded in 1987.
