Mellor’s cause of death is still unknown.
Rollem Productions stated in a statement, “We have lost a wonderful talent and a real luminary.”
The Leeds-born actress is also a screenwriter, having written screenplays for Band of Gold, Coronation Street, Brookside, and the award-winning children’s drama “Children’s Ward.”
Fat Friends starred James Corden, Ruth Jones, Alison Steadman, and Gaynor Faye, Mellor’s youngest daughter.
Mellor was a bundle of talents, according to Sir Lenny Henry, who collaborated with her on The Syndicate. She had a sense of humour and a burning desire to bring out the best in people.
“She was so breezily brilliant, so casually pleasant, so ready to get on with business,” screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce remarked.
Mellor married Anthony Francas in 1968, and the couple has two children in the entertainment industry: actress Faye and television producer Yvonne Francas.
