1. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has reported 1585 new COVID-19 infections in the country.

The health agency reported that the country sadly recorded eight additional deaths in the last 24 hours, raising the overall total in the nation since the start of the pandemic to 1,350.

2. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says presentation of a valid National Identification Number (NIN) would be compulsory for all categories of vehicle registration from April.

Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM), Bisi Kazeem, Corps Public Education Officer, who made the announcement in a statement on Saturday, mandated that all applicants for the National Driver’s Licence must present their NIN before being captured for any class of licence.

3. The Federal Government will shut the Lagos Island-bound traffic on the Third Mainland Bridge for two weeks from Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

The Federal Controller, Works Lagos, Engr. Popoola Olukayode, who confirmed this in a statement on Saturday, called for cooperation and understanding from the public, especially motorists.

4. The Senior Pastor of Awaiting The Second Coming of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa has charged Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to wake up to his responsibilities.

The cleric expressed disappointment over Akeredolu administration’s approval of grazing in the State.

5. The National Primary Health Care Development Agency, (NPHCDA), has revealed criterion that will be used for the distribution plan of the COVID-19 vaccine in Nigeria.

NPHCDA said that the rate of infection in each State would be the criterion used in the distribution.

6. Tambari Yabo, a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), is dead.

He died in Sokoto on Saturday at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) after a brief illness.

7. The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kwara Command, said three persons died during a mob attack on its Sector 3 checkpoint and operational base in Ilesha-Baruba area.

Zakari Chado, the Public Relations Officer, said the trio were part of the mob that stormed the checkpoint and attempted to overrun the base.

8. Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists, Saturday, stormed Gujba town in Yobe State firing gunshots sporadically.

The identity of the assailants is not yet ascertained, but the attack is similar to that of Boko Haram/ISWAP militants.

9. A veteran Nollywood actor, Jim Lawson Maduike has passed away.

The thespian died on Saturday after complaining of body pains

10. A Boeing 737-524 aircraft carrying 62 people crashed into the Java Sea on Saturday.

The accident occurred shortly after the jet took off from the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.
