But the couple had a divorce in 1978.

Daniel Petersen is the son of Ursula Sieg and Wolfgang Petersen.

One or the More (1974), Das Boot (1981), The NeverEnding Story (1984), Enemy Mine (1985), In the Line of Fire (1993), Outbreak (1995), Air Force One (1997), The Perfect Storm (2000), Troy (2004), Poseidon (2006), Four Against the Bank (2016), and other movies were both directed and written by him.

In connection with the World War II submarine warfare movie Das Boot, Petersen received six Academy Award nominations (1981). In addition to being nominated for a BAFTA Award and a DGA Award, Petersen won two of those for adapted screenplay and directing.

At the age of 81, Wolfgang Petersen passed away in Brentwood from pancreatic cancer on August 12, 2022.
